The Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC) is calling on municipalities across Ontario to review their zoning and rental licensing bylaws to eliminate barriers to housing services for people with mental health issues or addictions.

RE: Town council to discuss bylaw exemptions to allow horse and buggy business in Navy Yard Park

With the exception of Councillor Diane Pouget, shame on council for putting accessibility after the cart. In particular, shame on Councillor Bart DiPasquale, a member of the town’s accessibility advisory committee, for not representing the rights of residents with disabilities.

Group Home Location Bylaws Pit Ontario Cities Against Human Rights Watchdog

Ontario’s top human rights watchdog warned Thursday it will actively challenge discriminatory” bylaws that restrict the location of group homes, but one prominent critic says the Ontario Human Rights Commission is treading clumsily into an area better left to local decision-makers.

Barbara Hall, the OHRC’s chief commissioner, said local governments discriminate against people with addictions and mental health issues when they uphold laws saying two group homes cannot be within a certain distance of one another.

New Integrated Accessibility Standard Regulation(IASR) Guide

It has taken a while but the Guide for the Integrated Accessibility Standard Regulation (IASR) is now available on the AODA.ca website.

The Government’s version spanned some 80 odd pages with many errors and differing list structures, but it is finally ready in 1 single accessible page and can be found in the side menu of the AODA.ca website or go directly there by visiting https://www.aoda.ca/?page_id=1888
