After an autoimmune disease damaged Christina Strong’s vocal chords and put her in a wheelchair, she said the obstacles kept coming after she left the hospital.

Looking forward to lunch at a restaurant, she said she felt completely ignored by servers, who directed all their conversation to her mother.

A Brampton mother is calling for changes in training and an apology from the retail giant H&M after an incident in which she said an employee lacked “compassion and understanding” for her son, who lives with autism.

In most cases, a university proposing a new measure to provide mental health treatment to students is viewed as something positive. But the University of Toronto’s proposed mandatory leave program is not one of these cases, and in fact is further proof that that school is more concerned with protecting its academic reputation than with the mental wellbeing of its students.
