Strategy Goals

Attendees suggest that this strategy’s main goal should not involve increasing businesses’ awareness about the benefits of employing people with disabilities. While awareness is important, attendees state that the government’s strategy should focus on more specific goals and achieve measurable results. For example, the review recommends that the strategy’s measure of success should be the number of people with disabilities who access employment through its support.

However, many workers do not know how to apply the guidelines in AODA standards to their specific services or locations. As a result, workers may search for advice, such as by contacting a consulting firm. However, the website of the Accessibility Directorate of Ontario (ADO) warns visitors that some consultants may provide inaccurate advice. Therefore, Onley’s review recommends that the government should develop a website about accessibility to support AODA compliance.
